UMA LEITURA DE A MAÇÃ NO ESCURO, O LIVRO DE/SOBRE MARTIM

Abstract

The apple in the dark (1961) talks about Martim, on the run for a crime committed that the reader is ignorant of. And that when he finds a farm, he sees the opportunity to hide from the police, working for and relating affectionately to two women, Ermelinda and Vitória. However, in spite of the certainty of the crime and the constant imminence of his denunciation, the reader is late to know what actually happened: it is only at the end of the book when Vitória denounces the authorities that Martim is a fleeing criminal that his act is revealed-confessed: the murder of his wife. However, Martim is surprised by the news that the crime was unsuccessful and that his wife survived. Would the survival of the alleged victim jeopardize the crime status of the act?, empty it?, and therefore destabilize the escape and guilt logic of the murderer?, the now-potential murderer, the criminal of a crime that did not occur until the end, of a crime that therefore would not have occurred? The criminal of a crime not committed or, to resume the short story “The crime of the math teacher” (1960), I killed you because you were the constant possibility of the crime that I had never committed?
