The objective of the present study was to identify in the scientific literature evidence on the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children aged 1 to 5 years. We searched the Scielo and Pumed database using the key words iron deficiency anemia, iron deficiency anemia children and prevalence. The selected articles had as base to answer the guiding question: What brings the literature about the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among children with age 1 to 5 years? A total of 2805 individuals were identified for reading 467 and beautiful in the 19th group included in this review. Studies show that iron deficiency anemia affects 2 billion people, 51.2% of the population being children between the ages of 2 months and 5 years. Factors such as economics, sociodemographic aspects and level of schooling of parents were associated according to the literature with the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children. It was possible to observe in this review that iron deficiency anemia presents a high prevalence in children and that there are numerous factors that can contribute to its development. It is a disturbance that affects different regions in Brazil, it is worth noting that its high prevalence was in regions that presented nutritional deficiency and low economy among the studied populations.
