Management as a health and safety promotion factor at school

Abstract

This article is a reflection of discussions developed over fifteen years in the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Representations, Education and Sustainability (GIPRES), at the State University of Bahia (UNEB). The study is part of the Research Line on Social Representations and the Organization of School Space and aimed to report an experience of collaborative management, in school health and safety, carried out in a school in the urban periphery of Salvador-Bahia-Brazil, in order to reducing existing risk factors and emphasizing what we need to live well. Through the thinking of Leiro (2004), and Castro and Rosa (2010), we contextualize youth and drug use to approach the ideas of Pimentel, Bomfim and Santana (2021), on public policies and socio-educational practices of young people in peripheries urban. Finally, the ideas of Bucher and Oliveira (1994) served to elaborate the intervention project with a preventive approach and structured based on a model of health education that underlies the Health Promotion Program at School. It was developed together with administrators, teachers and representatives of the school board, and empirical data were collected, analyzed and systematized through written records and images. The results allowed us to develop strategies to promote health and combat drug use, under three axes: Integration of prevention in the school curriculum; Youth participation, Formation of multipliers and Strengthening of the school in the community
